LLilian Ouma, a 30-year-old mother of four from Kisauni constituency in Mombasa County, always dreamt of running her own business. However, the intense competition in various ventures, from fast food stalls to vegetable kiosks, led to numerous setbacks and eventual loss of hope. To settle her bills, she turned to casual jobs, but financial challenges continued to overshadow her vision.

During her job hunt, Lilian came across an organization that linked her to Ujuzi Institute of Career Development. She enrolled in the Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy program, where she particularly enjoyed the life skills sessions, industry visits, and entrepreneurship lessons. These experiences reignited her entrepreneurial spirit.

After completing her studies, Lilian joined a salon in the Kisauni area for her attachment. After three months of hands-on experience, she moved to Bamburi and opened her own salon. Today, she successfully runs her business and has employed two girls.

Lilian is grateful to the Ujuzi Institute for revitalizing her business aspirations. She is now financially stable and planning to open another salon in the Kiembeni area. “Thanks to the Ujuzi family, my business vision is back on track,” says Lilian. Lilian’s story is a testament to the power of vocational training in transforming lives and empowering individuals to achieve their dreams.
